Navajo Code Talkers
The Navajo Code Talkers are trained Navajo Marines that was strongly associated with bilingual Navajo speakers to stop the enemy forces during WWII. Before the Navajo Code Talkers there was the Choctaw nation which helped the American forces in WWI, the Choctaw soon had their code broken during the war in WWI by Germany. This came to the idea of using Native American lanugage to help win the war. "The Navajo Code Talkers were successful because they provided a fast, secure and error-free line of communication by telephone and radio during World War II in the Pacific." (Silversmith, 2020)
"While a person fluent in the language would hear a message that translated into a list of words that seemingly had no connection to each other, a code talker would hear a very clear message." (Leal, 2019)
Germany and Japan sent students to the United States after World War I to study Native American languages and cultures, such as Cherokee, Choctaw, and Comanche. Because of this, the U.S. military did not know if they should continue the Navajo Code Talkers during WWII. They thought it might get cracked before they knew the full extensions of the Navajo language
